The real way to make money online
SUCCESS TAKES WORK BUT YOU'LL GET THERE!
Internet Marketing, affiliate marketing, or whatever you want to call it makes huge promises of big money by spending just a few hours a day working from home. It's simple the experts say. Just post to your Facebook friends, DM them, make videos, and advertise. If you have a good offer the money will pour in. Oh yes, don't forget to create a website with a squeeze page. You need their email address and info. You know what that means right? You need to grow a big email list so that you can promote to them. That's where the money is. What do you promote? How about a big giant bag full of air. Pure nothingness. This is how to make big bucks working from home with Internet marketing or is it.
In 2012, after a devastating job loss, I was desperate for work. I had some success opening an Etsy shop and creating gigs on Fiverr. Actually both of those gave me part time pay. The problem was that I had a mortgage and needed to be earning more. As Thanksgiving Day was approaching I found an ad on Craigslist for a work at home job with a real 80 year old company. Days later I attended the online "Live Job Orientation" and I was convinced. It was for Motor Club of America. The job was to promote their product through affiliate marketing aka internet marketing. It seemed great to me. I promote their product, someone signs up through me, I get paid a big commision! I waited until after Christmas because I was busy doing a Santa video gig at Fiverr. Just before 2013 arrived, without much training, I posted my first ad on Craigslist. The gimic with my team was to make a job listing promoting the very "live webinar" I attended. I found out it was not live and actually recorded months earlier. That was fine because it was effective. I was not promoting MCA but a job opportunity. Twenty minutes or so later I came to to PC and boom...I made an $8o sale!! I was ecstatic! $80 in 20 minutes! Perhaps internet marketing was the answer I was looking for!
Soon after making my first sale I made another and another. I was on my way. I buried myself in the business. I wanted this to be my sole job. If I was able to make a full time income I would end Etsy and Fiverr. I thought I was on my way to riches. I studied everyday. I watched training videos, blogged, advertised on every classified ad site, made videos, and so on and so on. I truly believed in this. Internet marketing baby! The deeper I got the more involved I became. I joined Empower Network, an MLM company that was making millions at the time, and other top Internet marking teams. I was determined to succeed.
As I moved along thing became much clearer about this business. I learned what they don't tell you. For example it's not easy work and it's way more than a few hours a day. More like all day and night. You are competing against thousands of others doing exactly what you are doing. You find yourself doing three or more blog posts everyday. Multiple videos and lots of ad posting. You're writing daily emails to your subscribers, sending solo ads, and of course social media all the while researching the correct keywords and keyphrases to use. Training is never ending because things rapidly change in this business. MCA wasn't cutting it anymore so I needed more products to promote. That's how internet marketing works. You promote, promote, and promote constant products. After two years of this I grew tired and so did many others.
I was making money and sometimes daily sales but I still wasn't making what I needed. I also began hating it all. I enjoyed the videos but hated the rest of it. I then noticed a change. My MCA team, one of the biggest ones online at the time, shut down their website for good. No warning to any of us. Just like that leads were gone, capture pages were gone, etc. I then moved to another top internet marketer. After two weeks with him he stopped updating his site and gave up on it. Before I new it all of the top MCA team websites and systems were gone. I then joined a whole new system and program. I went through the training, set up my site, and promoted like crazy. This particular system had been active for years and years. It was the brainchild of the oldest marketer online and a true assh(*e as well. This guy was jerk. Well suddenly he shuts his site down without notice. To get our leads back we had to pay him by joining his new paid site. I was beyond disgusted. One by one the dominoes fell. This lead me to taking full control over my internet marketing business. I created my own website, own capture pages, and every lead came to me and not them. I did this all through a all-in-one site. The guy who created this site wanted to make things easier for marketers. He had it all there. Email auto-responder, lead capture pages, pre-written solo ads, ad and campaign tracking, and was developing a blog network for us. He also invited you to contact him if you had a complaint. I did have an issue one day so I contacted him. I was friendly but he shut me down anyway. He canceled my account and send my money back. I did call him and got my account back but still it added to my hatred of this internet marketing business.
I had now been in this for nearly three year. Empower Network had been pushing this "Blog Beast" claiming is was going to be huge. It wasn't. It failed and eventually Empower Network failed as a whole. They are now bankrupt and no longer exist. It's sad to see such a fall from the top as I like to see people succeed. How about the guys who did the "live" webinar that got me in this thing in the first place? They too began shutting down sites and opportunities. I looked them up recently and they appear to be out of this business. Another one of my coaches is still working online but doesn't seem to have the same pull she once had. So what about me? As those who followed me back then, they know that in 2015 I recorded a very open and honest video announcing that I was done with this business and why.
I grew to hate the business of internet marketing. I couldn't justify working that many hours for the kind of pay I was getting. Time is money. The other thing, the biggest problem of all, was that all we were doing was selling a bag of air. With Motor Club I was promoting a real product. BigKabang I was promoting real products. With many of these internet marketing companies we were selling training videos that taught you how to sell those very training videos or a website that offered nothing and then you would promote that same website. Most of the products you promoted were just different versions of the same thing. All digital products that did nothing or were rehashed from something else and then you promote that.. It started with a big launch, you quickly promote this new product to your list, they buy, and then after a few weeks the shiny new toy becomes old and the sales slow until stopping. It happens to everyone on your team and, if it's residual income, eventually they cancel and little by little your income decreases from this once "next best thing" goes away. I believe most have a hard time justifying selling air as a way to earn money. We want something real.
Now don't get me wrong, It's not all bad. You do learn great techniques from many different marketers. What they all teach is valuable and worth learning for any type of business. That is the takeaway here. Instead of promoting bags of nothingness, try promoting real tangible products. Products people need, products that can make lives better, and maybe that will bring the success that so many seek. Training videos are great but most of it can be found online or in affordable online courses at Udemy. I took the techniques I learned about blogging, videos, keywords, and advertising and used it to market my Etsy shop and the real products I offer. That's the kind of internet marketing that works for me. The other thing to takeaway from this is that if you do want to promote bags of air just know it won't last. You need to move onto the next bag and the next and the next. Learn from the failure of Empower Network and all these other successful marketers that are now gone. Not everyone has failed doing this but I believe many have a hard time promoting products that don't really offer much. That's my opinion anyway with regards to internet marketing and why I stopped.
